Short Story Spotlight: Silent Hero
I've written my February 2024 story for my blog on Reedsy! This one was fun--I find that I've been enjoying writing stories in the form of letters or diary entries. There's something about the medium that keeps me super focused.
This month's story, Silent Hero, was written in response to the following prompt:
Set your story at a silent retreat.
This week's theme was Aposiopesis, which Reedsy defines as follows:
An ancient figure of speech, literally meaning “becoming silent,” aposiopesisis a very fancy word for a very common predicament. Aposiopesis occurs when a sentence breaks off and is left unfinished, suggesting the speaker is too overwhelmed to go on. Think “I’m so angry, I could —”, “You don’t think they…?”, or “I just thought…”

Gail's sister, Dahlia, has dragged her to a silent retreat so that they can mend their relationship (or something). A confusing news broadcast sends the the retreat into a panic, and retreat leaders (Justin and Justine) take some rather worrying measures...
