Works In Progress (June 2022)

You can read a bit more about The Reality Warper here, but this post is to tell you a little about the other things I am working on.

Awake!

Awake! is a completed manuscript that I am in the process of editing, based on reader feedback, before I try, again, to find an agent. I recently finished all the little, on-the-page edits my beta readers suggested, and I am now working on some of the more substantial refinements.

I don’t like editing. I like to write new stuff instead of covering the same ground I’ve been over before. That being said, I agree with most of what my reviewers have suggested for this book, and I’m excited about the improvements I’m making. I hope to have this book ready for agent hunting by the end of 2022 (actually, I’m pretty convinced I can get it done sooner than that, but I’m terrible at knowing how long something will take me, so we’ll see).

About Awake!

In a world where children choose their own parents and the government is trying to cure that pesky disease known as ‘sleep,’ one little elf (named Veronica) finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy when she learns she is being haunted by a ghost, a ghost that can’t move on until Veronica helps her resolve her unfinished business. Oh, and ignore the zombies. I’m sure they’ll sort themselves out.

Earthquake House

I’m very excited about Earthquake House! This is a world for which I can imagine countless stories, because the possibilities are literally endless. I am making excellent headway with the first version of this book. I love all my characters, and I think that the story that holds them all together is very strong indeed. We’ll see how I feel when I get to that inevitable editing stage, but with this one I feel like I’ve finally figured out what I want to write.

About Earthquake House

Want a ten story house that changes color according to your mood? Want a home that washes it’s own dishes and goes for strolls in the woods when the weather’s nice? Be careful–if you wish too hard, the Magic will make your dream house appear, and then it’s your responsibility. When Grace flees her oppressive home and finds herself in Earthquake House, full of ever-changing doors that lead to strange, ‘other’ worlds, she has a choice to make: go home and face the music, or stay and try to convince her new friends that her Way is right. But what if they convince her first…?

The Battle for Alerrawia

This is the sequel to The Reality Warper. I actually planned this story, as well as the third book in the series, ages ago when I was trying to find an agent for the first book. It’s going extremely well, probably because I already know and trust so many of the characters and don’t need to spend quite as much time subduing them as I do with Earthquake House. Weirdly, I think it might end being shorter than The Reality Warper, but also deeper. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

About The Battle For Alerrawia

Without giving away any The Reality Warper spoilers: Ev and her friends have a long way to go before they can fix things the right way for everyone. Ev sometimes wishes that she’d never learned some of the truths she worked so hard to uncover in Book 1, because once you learn certain things, you HAVE TO act.
